Northern Ireland Refugee Resettlement Consortium

The Northern Ireland Refugee Resettlement Consortium (NIRRC) is a Voluntary and Community Sector response which was designed to meet the objectives set out in the Department for Communities (DfC) plan for refugees under the VPR scheme.

The Consortium helped to resettle over 450 vulnerable families (over 1,800 people) fleeing conflict through the Syrian Vulnerable Persons Resettlement Scheme.  These families arrived between 2015 and April 2022.

Since October 2022, NIRRC has begun to support Afghan citizens who have had to flee Afghanistan and who have been approved for refugee resettlement in the UK.  Resettlement is through ACRS (the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme) and the ARAP (Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy) scheme.   As with the VPRS work, the focus for the Consortium is to help families and individuals to build their lives in a place of safety and to integrate and contribute to Northern Ireland society. Over 50 families have been resettled in NI to date.
